The concept of Pairfum?

The concept of Pairfum is that of a 'private collection', similar to the private
collections by Armani, Tom Ford, Hermes, Chanel, Guerlain, Prada, etc.

‘Private Collections’ are special, luxurious ranges with:
~ a range of 'unusual fragrances', i.e. not just one single fragrance.
~ 'limited editions' to reduce availability and increase exclusivity
    ~'prestige presentation'

Similar to Pairfum, other brands consist only of 'private collection' style products
such as Jo Malone, Molton Brown, etc.

Fragrance

Charles Piesse, a 19th century perfumer, likened the creation of fragrance to a composer
creating a symphony. Music may be described as having a rhythm of base notes, melodic
middle notes which are its essence and top note accents from a piccolo. The harmony of
these elements is the 'music'.

The creation of fragrance can be explained using this symphony metaphor in which
fragrance 'notes' combine to create the harmonious accord that is the perfume.

Fragrance Triangle

A ‘fragrance triangle’ is typically used by perfumers to describe the ‘accord’ of a
fragrance. They classify the ingredients they have used in a perfume, according to
their volatility. Top notes are the most volatile and base notes the least.

Top notes are light, radiant and fresh. They are the first ingredients that one can
perceive and distinguish when smelling a perfume. These are typically citrus, fruity,
herbal or floral oils.

Heart notes are at the core of the of the fragrance. Once the top note of the
fragrance has developed, its flowers, spices, fruits and aromatic aspects reveal
themselves.

The Base notes of the perfume give it depth, richness and mystique. The base
notes are like the foundation of the perfume and carry the accord. The base often
consists of combinations of vanillas, musks, woods and spices. They make a
fragrance longlasting. They typically have a very low ‘odour dection level’ and can
be sensed at very, very low levels which ensures that they linger a long time in the
air.

Aromacology

People are drawn to home fragrance for many reasons - not the least of which is
that busy lifestyles create a desire to make down time as enjoyable as possible.

The link between scent and memory was famously described by French author
Marcel Proust, who found himself transported back to his boyhood whilst smelling
Madeline cakes and a cup of tea - scents that for him, conjured up images of his
country garden and well-trod cobblestones.

The ability of a fragrance to transport us back through time and to locations has
been scientifically proven. Fragrance can trigger memories, emotions and feelings.
Perfume Fusion or Layering.

Pairfum fragrances are designed to complement one another and can easily be
combined (fused or layered) to create an unlimited number of individual fragrance
sensations to suit your space. Be creative and create your world within.

Will the fragrance be the same across all products ?

The perfume accord across all of the products in the PAIRFUM range is the same.
However, there is always going to be a small difference between a spray, a candle,
a reed diffuser, canopy infusion, a sachet, a lotion and a wash. This is due to the
nature of the base materials used in each products, e.g. candle wax versus liquid
wash.

Natural vs Synthetic

Thereare three principal types of fragrance & flavour ingredients used in,scents, perfumes and foods (under definitions agreed in the E.U. andAustralia).

Natural fragrances

Fragrancesubstances obtained from plant or animal raw materials, by physical, microbiological or enzymatic processes. They can be either used in theirnatural state or processed.

Nature-identicalfragrances or ingredients naturally occurring in essential oils

Fragrance substances that areobtained by synthesis or isolated through chemical processes, which arechemically, physically and effectively identical to fragrance substances presentin nature. These are not artificial fragrances.

Man-madefragrances

Fragrancesubstances not identified in nature, whether or not the product is processed. These are typically produced by fractional distillation and additional chemicalmanipulation from naturally sourced materials, from crude oil or coal tar.Although they are chemically different, they may in sensory characteristics be thesame as natural ones.

The main advantage of theingredients are:

superior quality & affordability

~replaceanimal derived ingredients, e.g. musk, amber, etc.

~moderningredients are typically safe for humans

~ typically their biodegradability &environmental impact is well researched & documented.

What is FSC or PEFC ?

Have a look on:

Both are organisations that independently certify forests &paper mills with regards to the sustainability of their production: growing oftrees, pulping of paper, etc.

What is the ink on the cartons & papers ?

The printing colours on the cartons & papers are vegetable based, i.e. they come

from plants. The vast majority of printing colours today are madefrom petroleum.

The only disadvantage of vegetable colours is that they slightless light fast, i.e. the fade about 10 % quicker than petroleum based colours.

What is the varnish on the cartons & papers ?

Every printed cartonor paper must have a varnish, otherwise the colours would

‘smudge’ if one were to wipe over the print with a finger. About99 % of all printed cartons & papers today use solvent based printvarnishes. However, they are not biodegradable and prevent that cartons &papers can be composted at home.

All of Pairfum’s packaging use an innovative water-based varnishwhich is ensures that the packaging is fully compostable.

What is the yellow ribbon made from ?

The ribbons are made from cellulose, i.e. the core of a tree.Hence, a natural, eco-friendly and sustainable source.

Cotton has thedisadvantage that the cotton fibre does not absorb insecticides,

pesticides, fungicides, etc. Hence, anybody can claim that cotton is organic but

nobody can disprove such a claim.

What is type of glue is used for the packaging ?

Glue is typically solvent based, making it not biodegradable andalso not renewable.

All of Pairfum’s packaging us a novel water-based glue which isbiodegradable.

What is ‘home compostability’ ?

Essentially ‘home compostability’ means rapid biodegradation anddisintegration plus not toxic to the environment (aqua & land).

There is no official legal definition yet, however, here some of the requirements

currently underdiscussion:

~Biodegradation: at a temperature of 20 to 30 C,> 90 % of theoretical CO2

value of the itemreleased.

~Disintegration: at a temperature of 20 to 30 C, no visible residue of sample,

achieved within 6months.
Pairfum’scarton / paper packaging already meets these requirement.

Snow Crystal Candles

What kind of wax is the vegetal / plant based candle?
Our wax is called stearine wax.

There are various types of stearine wax but basically they split into fields:

~from an animal source. Typically, it would be a side product from food
production. The very first stearine candles were made in Scandinavia from wale
    fats.
~ from a plant source. These can be from palm, avocado, coconut, etc.

Unlike soy, parrafin, beeswax, etc. which are all ‘fats’, the Pairfum stearine wax is
slightly acidic, i.e. it has the same acidity as the human skin – a PH-value of 5.5.
This is why is feels so hard & different to the touch.

The Pairfum stearine wax is a 100 % natural, plant based wax which comes from
    old & stustainably managed farms.

Thanks to this wax, the candle does not smoke or soot, even when the candle flame
is flickering (e.g. in a draft) or fanned by hand.

A peculiarity of the wax is that it is not soft and does not go soft when the candle
burns, i.e. it is either hard or liquid.

A key advantage over fatty waxes (soy, parrafin, beeswax, etc.) is that the wax
does not attract dust and any dust that may gather on the top of the candle does not
stick to it but instead can be blown from the candle easily. This means a shop can
just blow any dust away that may have collected on a tester candle and the candle
    looks ‘fresh’ again.

Pairfum’s plant based wax does not come from a GM modified crop, unlike most
soy waxes. 99% of all soy wax produced in the US is from GM modified crop. It is
our opinion that this is ‘time tomb’ waiting to hit candle suppliers, when consumers
realise that their so called ‘natural & safe’ soy wax candles have in fact been
tampered with by humans in laboratories.

Stearine wax candles are regarded by the Scandinavians as the finest wax candles
money can buy. This means something because Scandinavia has the highest
consumption of candles per head in the world, due to their long & dark winters
    .
How do you get it to look like that?

    A combination of:
    ~ the type of wax,
~ pre-heating the glass in manufacturing, and
~ filling it very, very slowly by hand
creates the ‘crystalline snow flake’ effect.

The crystallised effect re-appears in the wax when the burning candle is
extinguished. One will notice how first a crystal coating appears at the top & side
while the wax underneath is still liquid, just like with a lake that is freezing over.
The only other type of candle / wax which comes close to this look is a parrafin
candle that is moulded. These candles frequently have a ‘mottled look’ which is very
    trendy in Europe.

Why does it have two wicks?

Any candle with a diameter greater than 70-80 mm or 2.8-3.2 inch in diameter
needs to be burned for at least two hours to ensure that it burns down evenly.
Pairfum uses two wicks as this ensures that the candle burns down evenly without
residues on the glass walls, even if the candle is repeatedly burned for only a short
    time, e.g. one hour.

What are the wicks made of?

The wicks are made from cotton, i.e. plant based.

They do NOT contain any metal or lead filements (toxic, carcenogenic)
Comparsion of stearine versus paraffin wax and soy ?

Pairfum candles comply with the following quality marks:

    ~RAL – www.kerzenguete.com
    ~ American National Candle Association - http://www.candles.org/industry.html

What are the instructions for safe candle use ?

The safety & candle usage instructions on the PAIRFUM candle are in line standard
safety guidelines from the following associations:

~ please refer to the website of the British Candlemakers Federation:
    http://www.britishcandlemakers.org/Safety.htm
~please refer to the website of the European Candle Association:

Key Selling Point

a unique, translucent crystallised wax structure that is achieved by very, very slowly
pouring each candle individually by hand. Hold it under a light to see it become translucent
and to view the crystalline structure each candle exquisitely perfumes your home, i.e. beautiful  fragrance bloom, due to a
higher melt point than soy wax. Soy has a melt point of around 104 deg Fahrenheit (°F) and this wax has meltpoint of around 149 °F. Scientific Fact: due to the higher meltpoint this candle releases about 4 x as much perfume into the air as a soy candle.

In a shop, dust does not stick to the wax as it is NOT fatty/oily. The user can simply
blow any dust from the top of the candle.

Key features:

    100 % biodegradable & natural wax (CO2 neutral)
Made with wax sourced from old & sustainably managed farms (not genetically modified
    like most soy)
each candle has its own unique crystal structure in the wax
    Natural cotton wick
handmade & giftwrapped by artisans in the United Kingdom
perfumes are made using essential oils and are fully biodegradable, healthy for you and
    the environment
homogenously & highly scented with couture perfume (top to bottom)
    Non carcinogenic - non toxic

    Three sizes:
    11 ounze / 330 g/ml fill
    ~ burntime: 50-60 hrs
~Lead-free, blown crystal glass of high clarity, brilliance & strength
    5 ounze / 200 g/ml fill
    ~ burntime: 30-40 hrs
~soda glass with silk screen print
    90 g/ml fill:
    ~ burntime: ~23 hrs
~ tin with chalk and unique ‘blackboard’ surface on the side wall

Why are there no name on the perfume bottle / candle glass / etc. ?

Some perfume bottles have names printed on them but others don't. For example,
Kenzo / Moton Brown / etc and many others don't have a name printed on the
bottle. It tends to be brands with a minimal / simple / elegant / modern design.

PAIRFUM  believes a name printed on the bottle does not improve the design / look of the
extremely elegant Pairfum bottle. The perfume which is most similar to the Flacon
of Pairfum is 'Flower' by Kenzo. It does not have a name printed on the bottle. It is
our opinion that for example the bottles in D&G's unisex scent collection would look
much nicer without the white sticker. It is only in-store, i.e. on the shelf, that the
stickers of the D&G's unisex scent collection help the consumer to choose their
preferred perfume. It is for this reason, that we provide Pairfum tester bottles /
glasses that carry a 'tester' sticker with the different perfume names on them.

There is only one bottle / glass shape for all of the products. Is this too simple?

Every one of the 'private collections' use the same bottle across the entire range of
their perfumes. Many of the top brands now use the same bottle across many
different products. See Estee Lauder 'Pleasures', Dior J'adore, Chanel, etc.

What are the key selling points ?

~The world’s first beeswax honeycomb diffuser sachet with a long-lasting

this natural sachet to perfume your wardrobe for a long time.
~ Contains up to 40% of beautifully pure, crystallised perfume nectar (patent
pending).

Is the beeswax honeycomb real and what kind of wax is it made from ?

The sachet contains a real beeswax foundation sheet:

use in beehives

11 x 18 cm

What is the coating on the honeycomb sheet ?

Each precious beeswax honeycomb sheet is carefully coated by and with a pure &
concentrated perfume infused nectar (patent pending).

What is the plastic foil made from ?

A special aromabarrier foil (PET / EVOH). This material biodegrades.

Any special safety instructions ?

Ignoring instructions for use may lead to property damage or personal injury. Do not
eat. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. As wax can melt, place away from
direct sunlight and sources of heat (e.g. radiators, lightbulbs, TV's). Handle with
care and only with your hands. Always wash your hands with soap and water
immediately after touching wax and before touching anything else (e.g. eyes,
mouth). Should this accidentally happen, immediately rinse with clean water and
consult your doctor. Do not let the sachet get in direct contact with any fabric,
polished, painted, plastic or wooden material which may be damaged by perfume
oils.

Does the Beeswax Honeycomb have a special function ? Does it comfort allergies ?

The honeycomb hexagon is a unique design because each hexagon holds the
perfume in the same way as the bees put the honey on it. It is a very strong
construction and it can hold perfume / honey on both sides.

All of our perfumes contain natural essential oils. Many of these have special
effects. For example:

~ Lavender is comforting & relaxing, it is anti-bacterial and also has anti-moth
properties, equally
~Cedar is anti-bacterial and also has anti-moth properties

Did the process of sourcing the beeswax harm the bees in any way ?

The beeswax honeycombs Pairfum use are identical to the ones used by beekeepers in
Europe in their beehives.

Bees naturally roam about the countryside for miles around their beehive. For this
reason it is impossible to buy genuinely certificied organic beeswax, if the locality
from which it comes is not know for each environmental purity.

Our beeswax foundation sheets are made from 100% pure beeswax from Bavaria
in Germany. The Bavaria countryside is famous for it clean & green environment
with very little pollution.

Furthermore, beekeepers in Germany are not allowed to spray insecticides &
pharmaceuticals on the beehives.

The beeswax Pairfum use has been naturally collected by bees and has just been
filtered, melted and pressed into the honeycomb shape. It has not been treated
chemically in any way. The beeswax is obtained in a harmless mechanical fashion
with no harm to the bees after the honey has been removed from the honeycombs.
Could you please confirm if the Sachets are effective against moth? It's not mentioned on
the packaging.

There are only two natural perfume rawmaterials that are effective against moths:
~lavender, and
~cedar

Pairfum have enough of these two natural ingredients in our sachet so that these two
perfumes are effective against moths.

However, these two are only effective if the sachet is being hung in the wardrobe
early in the 'moth season' because they stop the larve from growing.

Reed Diffuser

How do fragrance diffusers work?

Pairfum® aromatic diffusers will naturally disperse fragrance throughout a room via
the natural fibre reeds. Once placed into the aromatic liquid, the porous fibre reeds
will draw the liquid up and the fragrance is diffused from the reeds into the air.
Fragrance diffusers are fantastic for the home or the office because they emit
aroma subtly, so the scent is never too overpowering. Candles will last for a few
hours and flowers, a few days, yet a superior diffuser will last for several months.

PAIRFUM Reed Diffuser are designed to be displayed !
Simply open the flacon and insert the reeds into the perfume infusion. They will
draw the liquid up and allow it to diffuse into the room to envelop your home with an
exquisite, natural couture perfume. Pairfum invites you to add a touch of loving
elegance to your world within.

Are there any special usage instructions ?

You may regulate the perfume intensity & longevity to your personal taste through
the number of reeds you insert and by how frequently you turn them. The more
reeds you use and the more often you turn them over, the stronger the perfume in
the room will be. Air flow and local conditions will also affect the longevity of the
fragrance infusion.

PAIRFUM cares about the people you give this perfume to, they will know you care about them
and their world too:
~ non ozone depleting perfume infusion, i.e. non-VOC
~ fragrances for upto 6 months
~ fragrances for upto 3 months
~ couture perfumes are made using essential oils and are fully biodegradable,
healthy for you and the environment.
~ the elegant flacon is made from Italian glass
~handmade & giftwrapped by artisans in the United Kingdom
~10 x natural rattan reeds included
~non-flammable - non toxic - non carcinogenic
~ home compostable packaging: all inks, varnishes, glues, cartons and papers
used are rapidly biodegradable
~ renewable: inks are plant based; all the trees used for paper and cardboard
production are sourced from sustainably managed forests.

Pairfum
believe a name printed on the bottle does not improve the design / look of the
extremely elegant Pairfum bottle.
It is for this reason, that Pairfum provide tester bottles /
glasses that carry a 'tester' sticker with the different perfume names on them.

Why is there only one bottle / glass shape but many different perfumes?

Every one of the 'private collections' use the same bottle across the entire range of
their perfumes. Many of the top brands now use the same bottle across many
different products. See Estee Lauder 'Pleasures', Dior J'adore, Chanel, etc.

How long will my aromatic diffuser last?

This will depend on the fill level of your reed diffuser:
~100 ml – you may expect it to last upto 3 months
~200 ml – lasts upto 6 months
~250 ml – lasts upto 7 months

Is there a refill available?

No, refills are not yet available but PAIRFUM will launch them shortly:
~ refill liquid
~rattan reeds

Once the content of one bottle has been diffused the fibre reeds will be fully
saturated and need to be replaced. Additionally, our fragrance formulation needs to
be stored in a special aroma barrier container to preserve the effectiveness of the
product to ensure your next Pairfum® aromatic diffuser perfumes as well as the one
you have just enjoyed.

What are the reeds made from ?

They are natural rattan reeds and they have been coloured black with natural dyes
(i.e. minerals).

Why has my diffuser changed colour?

The formulation uses natural essential oils and when exposed to the oxygen in air
or sunlight, these may change color. This is especially pronounced in diffusers that
contain vanilla, jasmine and sandalwood. Over time the product will become
progressively darker. However, be assured that this does not affect the
performance of the product at all.

What precautions should I take when using my diffuser?

Ignoring safety instructions may lead to property damage, personal injury or fire
hazard. Do not drink. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. Handle with care
and only with your hands as glass containers are fragile and liquid perfume may
spill when the bottle is open. Ensure the bottle is upright before opening. Do not use
if the bottle is cracked, chipped, or scratched. Place on an inert surface to avoid
damage from perfume oils. Do not let the bottle or perfume get in direct contact with
any fabric or polished, painted, plastic or wooden material which may be damaged
by perfume oils. Place away from open flames and sources of heat (e.g. radiators,
lightbulbs, TV's). Do not light the reeds. Always wash your hands with soap and
water immediately after touching the bottle, the reeds or perfume liquid and before
touching anything else (e.g. eyes, mouth). Should this accidentally happen,
immediately rinse with clean water and consult your doctor. Teach everyone these
rules for safe use.

Why are some fragrances easier to detect than others?

Like flowers, natural essences and perfumes vary in fragrance strength. Our noses
more readily detect heady spice fragrances than delicate floral ones. Depending on
the effect you desire, you can choose your Pairfum product based on the
subtleness of the effect you want to achieve. Also, over time, our noses can
become accustomed to a fragrance which Pairfum have been using for a period of time.
If you find yourself not detecting the Pairfum fragrance, move it into another room
for several days and you will be amazed at the difference!

Why is the rate of evaporation faster for some fragrances than others?

Light green citrus scents are more volatile and will evaporate more quickly than the
heavy, woody, vanilla style fragrances that will linger. The frequency with which you
turn the reeds and the air conditions in which the diffuser is placed can also affect
the longevity of the product .If the room is large with air-conditioning or drafts, the
product will 'evaporate' much more quickly than if it is placed in a small, room with
minimal ventilation.

Does the product have a use-by date?

PAIRFUM recommends you open and enjoy your diffuser within 12 months of purchase.

Why are some fragrance diffusers darker than others?

There are no artificial colours in the diffusers. The fragrance oils have essence
extracts from natural botanicals, this means that the liquids can differ in hues from
clear through to the warm browns of vanilla.

What is the diffuser made of?

The diffuser is a combination of fragrance oil and a special carrier liquid. Some
diffusers are more heavily scented than others, as each product has a different,
specially blended combination of essence extracts in the fragrance oil. The alcohol
is necessary in the product as it allows the reeds to disperse the fragrance oil. The
concentration of each specific extract also varies between diffusers, resulting in
unique performances with each product.

Are all pieces the same ?

The size of the pieces all vary but are approx. 16x6.5x4 inch overall dimension.
They can be taller and the beauty is that each piece is totally different, i.e. a unique
Objet d'Art.

The wholesale price is the same for each piece, irrespective of the size. Our retailer
partners are retailing them successfully for between $60-400/piece, depending on
the area of their show. They tend to price them up individually in store, depending
on the size & beauty.

The product had a fantastic response during the NYIGF, as it is a totally new & different
concept in home fragrancing. It ticks many boxes:

~essentially, it turns perfumery into art
~ it is a perfect example of the mega trend towards 'eco-chique'.
~ the pieces of driftwood are collected from the floor of the tropical rainforest (no
de-forestation) by communes of women and are then cleaned & waxed by them.
It is one of the few sources of income for these ladies.
~ The honeycomb diffusers that slot in at the back are made from 100% natural
beeswax and perfume for upto 6 weeks. Each precious beeswax honeycomb
sheet is carefully coated by hand with a pure & concentrated perfume infused
nectar (patent pending).
~ PAIRFUM uses part of the proceeds to buy beehives in Africa. One beehive feeds
one family for one year, year after year.

Charitable Giving

PAIRFUM uses part of its profits to buy beehives for the developing world. One beehive
sustains one family, year after year.

PAIRFUM had also just donated:

~ to the Japanese Tsunami Desaster Fund
~ to buy books & open libraries in rural China. Libraries are the only form of
education available to rural China.

Sensuous Gifts

PAIRFUM found that even though many room fragrances look nice, their perfumes do not
necessarily have the quality PAIRFUM love in couture perfumes nor the power to actually fill out a room and seldom do they last.
Equally, air fresheners typically look ugly or cheap, work badly and their scents are a little
chemical.
PAIRFUM believes, the market is missing home fragrances with:
~ couture perfumes that one can fall in love with,
~ which are specially designed for rooms, and
~beautifully presented.
The Inspiration was to create a fragrant gift, that keeps its promise.

At the Touch of a Hand

Since our very beginnings our concern for quality has been all pervasive in the creation of
PAIRFUM. Hence, they have assembled a team of world-class chemists, clutting-edge designers
and unusually clever engineers to develop every new product ... for you, our customer.

For each new PAIRFUM product, they typically raise the bar in the industry:

~PAIRFUM creates a completely new class of products, or
~ They use innovative new ingredients,
~They use an unusal production method, or
~ PAIRFUM sets a new standard with regards to ‘naturality’, ‘eco-friendliness’ or ‘biodegradation’

This only works because our workshops are leaders in their field and known for the quality
of their craftsmanship, inventiveness, heritage and traditions.

PAIRFUM is lovingly handmade & giftwrapped by artisans in the UK on a "micro-level", i.e.
in small scale workshops with a sustainable development ethos. Part of the attraction of
ethical luxury comes from the appeal of micro-production over impersonal factoryproduced
goods. Every individual product is carefully crafted with personal passion and
pride, receiving its ‘finishing touch’ by hand to bring it alive. This creates a unique
personality that one doesn't find in most products.
